vsHotel Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how vsHotel (“the extension”) collects and processes information from users of our Chrome extension.
Information collection:
- Technical data about your device, version of the extension and usage of the extension to ensure functionality.
- Your language and the country from where the extension is used.
- Usage data on travel sites, such as hotel searches, checkin and checkout dates, number of guests and currency.
We collect this information about your interactions with the extension through Google Analytics in order to improve the extension, fix bugs and get insights for developing new features.
Google Analytics, a service which transmits website traffic data to Google servers. Google Analytics does not identify individual users or associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. We use reports provided by Google Analytics to help us understand the extension usage.
By using vsHotel, you consent to the processing of data about you by Google in the manner described in Google's Privacy Policy and for the purposes set out above. You can opt out of Google Analytics if you disable or refuse the cookie, disable JavaScript, or use the opt-out service provided by Google.
Personal information:
We DO NOT collect any kind of personal information, all the data we gather is fully anonymized. This lets us look at interactions with our site and products generally and does not identify you or any specific person.
We DO NOT know your name, we DO NOT know your email, we DO NOT know your payment details. We do not need any of that, we are simply a browser extension that suggests better hotel booking options.
Permissions required:
Reading all websites
- Travel booking websites, like Booking, Kayak or Airbnb: in order to show you the link to the hotel’s official website if we find it
- Single hotel websites: if the extension detects that you are interacting with an hotel website, it will attempt to compare its price with the ones from third-party providers (like Booking, Kayak…), just in case these have a better price than the hotel itself
We had to ask for permission to act in all websites because there are hundreds of thousands of hotel websites, but outside these two types of websites, the extension is completely disabled and does not interfere with your browsing.
Network requests inspection
In order to find out if a specific website you are browsing is a hotel website, the extension listens to requests to the most popular booking engines used by hotel websites.
As explained before, if the extension detects a request to a direct booking engine (like Amadeus, Mews, Cloudbeds…) done by a website, it will compare the price returned directly by the hotel with the ones from third party providers to let you know if you could save more on them.
We DO NOT interfere with requests not related to hotel booking sites.
Browsing history
The only moment where the extension accesses your browsing history is when you install it: the extension checks the URL of the Chrome Store page from where you installed the extension in order to extract any UTM (Urchin Tracking Module) parameter that could provide us with information about how you found us.
In other words, we only check the Chrome Store URL you visited to send once data to Google Analytics about whether you found us through social networks, through an advertising campaign, etc.
Cookie permissions
We only read our own cookies, the ones we use for Google Analytics. We DO NOT interact in any way with third-party cookies.
Data deletion requests
By uninstalling the Chrome extension, all the locally stored data will be immediately deleted,
If you also want us to delete all the information about your browsing that is stored in Google Analytics’s servers, please send an email to [email protected] specifying your user ID (present in local storage).
Upon receiving your request, we will process it in a timely manner to ensure your data is removed from Google Analytics as per your directive.
You can also write to us to [email protected] if you have any other doubts about your data.
